This year, the NHQHA Banquet and Awards Committee made a daring move to make honoring recipients receiving Presidents awards, and recognizing volunteers that made the 2007 events successful, at their Annual Business Meeting. They wanted to put this important program into its own special awards venue so it was scheduled to be a part of the Annual Business Meeting, held each year in November. They pulled it off.
The Annual meeting was held at the Cat -N Fiddle where members voted for new board members and bylaw changes.

The first annual President’s Special Awards Program saw President Cory Welch, bestow 76 honors which included the 2007 President’s 2007 Award, NHQHA Board member’s and then awarded gifts to the 62 volunteers that worked on events in 2007. Member and their family volunteers were given awards that were related to the hours served during events that their committee’s events ran during the year.

In addition to our many volunteers, President Cory Welch made his annual President's Award presentation to Barbara Breed for her tireless efforts to promote and foster the NHQHA.

President’s Message - News and Views

Sue Eastman Yahoo, its summer! We are busy logging hours, going to clinics, traveling to special competitions and conferences and showing our horses. We know the versatility of the Quarter Horse so let me share some of the exciting news, showing the versatility of our members.

A new activity for NHQHA and AQHA is a “Ride with the Hounds”, brainchild of member Susan Morrison-Rogers who coordinated with Joanne Ives our Recreation Committee Co-chair who worked the idea through to approval. There are more details in this News and Views. Please plan to join us for this history-making event, which will have national coverage! The Recreation Committee also reports the Log Program has tripled in size, so far this year. Ride on NH!

Novice Show Committee chair, Stacey McNeil invites everyone to the spring Novice Show in its new location at Winning Ways Stable in Dover, NH. The indoor facility features an 80X100 indoor arena, a great variety of classes and High Point youth and adult awards.
The Youth program has expanded with new and renewing members from pre-walk trot and the new AQHA Junior Master Horseman program participants to our older youth, who are fundraising, traveling, competing and learning about horses and leadership from here to Texas. Send us your video! Members, send in your video footage with you and your Quarter Horse for our next marketing project by our Marketing/PR Committee. Barbara Breed and Tina Jo Derby will be collecting the footage, so be sure to check out the flyer in this issue for details. You can be a star in the first ever NHQHA multimedia presentation (sponsored by a grant from Bank of America and AQHA).
Another important part of our work this year is reaching out to other councils and associations for information and opportunities. Being involved with keeping horses, members realize that life isn’t what it used to be – issues like water quality, manure restrictions, horse per acre minimums, private property use, current use, taxes, building and zoning … the list of equine related concerns is growing. These issues don’t just involve Quarter Horses, but all horses.

We need to be mindful & proactive as to the equine issues affecting us all. Be on the look out for select emails and web site links that may be of interest or issues that need our voice or our time to maintain, preserve and protect what is so special to us – the horse.

Keep those new and renewing membership forms coming in! New Hampshire is now the largest Affiliate membership per capita in Region 6! Thank you to each of you for your involvement and support. Special thanks to each Board, committee and subcommittee member for working extra hard this year to make this vision and the Mission a reality. Introduce a friend or family member to your horse – share the fun!
